Web Collective Launches Plone Website for School District
The Tigard-Tualatin School District, just south of Portland, OR, worked with Web Collective to create a new website for their 17 schools and over 10,000 students, teachers and administrators.
Tigard-Tualatin came to Web Collective already understanding the power of Plone, but needing help extending the CMS to perform a number of unique functions to support their large number of schools and users. Their vision was for a website that increased the level of communication between students, parents and teachers which also unifying their schools' various websites under a single system. This meant that the design and technology for the new district website had to be flexible enough to adapt to the individual design and content requirements of all the schools.
With Plone we were able to create a platform on which each of the 17+ webmasters have control over their school's sub-site design and content. We also create a set of features that allow teachers to own their own classroom section where they can post information on classes for students and parents. All of the site's users can easily log in to Plone because we integrated their account information with an already existing database maintained by the district. In the end, the project tapped into the talents of just about everyone of Web Collective's wizards!
We had a great time working with the Tigard-Tualatin IT department and look forward to a long relationship with them continuing to adapt and grow their website.
