Programmer, Graphic Designer, Founding Owner
I'm an experienced and creative web developer, information designer, graphic designer, and entrepreneur.
I'm seeking:
- Plone and Python development contract work;
- graphic and information design contract work;
- working/learning/internship opportunities putting my design and technological skills to use in the field of interpretive and exhibit design for museums, parks, public and touristic projects.
I'm looking to put my skills and experience to use to:
- create beautiful and compelling physical and digital 'environments', stories, and objects;
- build understanding of the earth and its places and cultures;
- explore new possibilities;
- bring joy, humor, and insight to my work; and
- to support the transformation toward a more just and sustainable society.
I'm currently wrapping up a five year project of creating and working as
a member of Web Collective, an employee cooperative web development firm focused on
serving sustainability-minded clients with content management systems,
custom web applications, and design. Previously I worked in ecotourism
marketing and interpretive planning as the owner of a small consulting
business. I'd like to further my skills in design for interpretation and
exhibits and to bring my technical abilities for digital design to
serve projects and organizations in line with my values.
Please contact me for work, collaboration, and learning opportunities!

Melody Winkle
melodyw [at] webcollective.coop
Project Management, Support, Owner
Melody began building and managing Web sites in 1994. Her experience and interest center around bringing together people and information.
After obtaining a degree in library and information science from the University of Washington, Melody got her start at Microsoft. She helped bring the Internet into their work world, taught Internet classes, and built the first Web server in the Microsoft library. In 1994, she moved to the University of Washington, where she coordinated web projects for the University for 14 years.
As web tools matured, she led a content management selection process which resulted in the choice of Plone. She coordinated the content management team, helped set the direction of the project, and supported the users.
Melody was also a key participant in organizing the University's web community by helping to start up the Content Management Working Group, the Search Working Group, and the UW Plone group. In addition, she was a member of the UW Web Council Steering Committee. She managed search tools for the UW, including a home-grown tool and later the UW Google search.
She particularly values being a part of the open source world and appreciates the rich community that contributes to Plone.
In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and is gratified to see the lawn turning into something much more sustainable, with native plants, food, and flowers.
