Our Culture

We at Web Collective are  as passionate about our lifestyle as we are about our work. We are involved community members with a diverse array of interests and ways in which we connect with the world around us. We know that dedication and hard work are important pieces to our success, but we also understand and include in our vision... fun. To quote David Johnston, "If you're not having fun, you're not taking this seriously enough." Fun can mean something as simple as our occasional rubber band fight, to creating games for harnessing our collective intelligence.

What follows is a variety of ways we connect, support and of course have fun with each other and our community.

Lunch Co-opLunch Co-op

We have realized that time with each other, outside of projects is essential to growing as a cooperative and community, and there’s no better way than to enjoy a meal together. We have members who run a lunch co-op to share local, healthy food, save money and share a meal. Participants rotate the duty of bringing in lunch for the others throughout the week. Sometimes the office smells so good! It's a healthy and inexpensive alternative to the many downtown restaurants.

Open Source Friday

Every Friday many members of our team give back to the open source projects we use in our business. They give back by taking the afternoon to get together with other developers from around Seattle to sprint on projects, to add features or squash bugs. It feels good to help improve the tools we use and to work side-by-side with other developers. The group also goes to lunch together, which is always a good time.

Coffee Card

Around 3pm, there is a general energy crash amongst the team and we take the opportunity to get coffee together. We are lucky to have great locally-owned cafe options within walking distance. Most are used to us bringing in our own cups and will gladly let us borrow a cup. We have a delicious gelato shop on the ground floor of our building, for which we have a shared Web Collective punch card.

10 Floors upStair Climb

The Web Collective World Headquarters is on the 10th floor of our building. It's easy to take the elevator, but for some simple healthy fun we make the ascent up and down those 10 flights. Some of us do it each time we leave the office, some do it a couple times a week. We’ve talked about a challenge to log the most flights. This challenge would, of course, help make us healthier physically, but also clears the mind, brings a bit of fun to the day and then of course there is the …prize!

Community Involvement

Grateful - that’s the word to describe how we feel about the lifestyle we enjoy here in Seattle. Most of us are involved in programs and events that bring people together and make community. We invite you to visit the nonprofits, projects and events we contribute out time, energy and money to.
