Who We Are
As individuals and as a group we are committed to building a sustainable future, to building software that helps bring it about, and to collaborative, open ways of working with each other, our clients, and the wider sustainability community.
Sustainability / Community
Besides our work with over seventy sustainability-driven client organizations, we have a long and active history of working in local economies, sustainable food networks, farm cooperatives, alternative energy venues, permaculture gatherings, intentional communities, and progressive media outlets. We have taken leadership positions in Eat Local Now, Seattle Good Business Network a chapter of BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies), Sustainable Ballard, Salish Sea Trading Cooperative, Harvest Collective, Seattle Food Not Lawns, the Interra Project, the Community Alliance for Global Justice and Sustainable Cascadia. We also volunteer and donate to Technology Access Foundation to help transform public education for students of color.
Software
We are experts in Plone, Wordpress, Salesforce and Django—technologies that are especially well-suited to the needs of mission-driven organizations—as well as Flash, Javascript, MySQL, PHP, Python, and Zope. We are active participants in the software community and have taken leadership positions in the Seattle Plone Gathering, Django Seattle User Group, the UW Content Management Working Group, the UW Plone group and in development sprints at the Plone Conference, PyCon, Django Seattle, and DjangoCon.
Process
We are committed to open, collaborative processes that bring out people’s best ideas and lead to productive, effective action. We have refined and perfected these methods through our client engagements, through our own work together as a collaboratively-organized workplace, and as speakers and leaders on collaborative work processes.
History
Web Collective began as a collaboration of Web professionals in 2005 who met while volunteering for BALLE Seattle. We incorporated as a employee-owned cooperative in Washington State in May 2007. Read more about the owners in the bios section.
Business Values
The owners of Web Collective commonly hold these values and strive to incorporate them into everything we do.
